Tell me, how many times have you come across choruses with pretty art and wanted to know who the original artist is/see the original art, only to find that there isn’t a credit, and if there is, it links to zerochan, with absolutely no further credit given?
Guys, there is a reason why Japanese artists and utaite see us as scumbags of the earth. We’re thieves. We’re inconsiderate, ignorant, and “stupid gaijins”. And I know that’s not true, but continuing to do stuff like that isn’t exactly giving ourselves a better image.
Saying an illustration comes from Zerochan is the same as crediting Youtube.com for 40mP’s music, because someone reprinted it to Youtube.
Crypton, creators of Hatsune Miku as well as many other famous Vocaloids, had created a platform for sharing media to be used with Vocaloid-related works known as piapro. Learn to love it, because 85% of the works posted there are free for you to use. Learn the Japanese tags for your favourite Vocaloids! And while you’re at it, browse through the related favourites etc. in order to find nice ones you can use. The tagging system there might not be as easy to navigate as Zerochan, but it sure as hell is much more legal.
Even taking artwork off pixiv is a greyzone, because a lot of these pieces are posted just as creative works, and never for the intention of re-use and editing. If you really like something, it helps to PM the creator for permission before using them, or asking someone who knows Japanese to do so for you.
Look at it this way - how much would you like it if someone took your vocals and re-uploaded it somewhere on Youtube without saying that you sang it? Think about that before randomly using any old artwork off Zerochan just because it’s “easier” to find stuff there next time.

Heh! Yeah I guess so, I think the word he was looking for (or I suppose will look for, since this happened tomorrow) was “Never, ever, ever, ever forget.” Even with that it’s still kinda childish.
