A story of a group of “African children” (no region cited) being generous to one another showed up on my dash recently. Beneath it was a series of comments saying North American children specifically could learn from how well African children behaved.

Stereotyping is still stereotyping, even if the trait you’re applying seems positive. Trying to bundle an entire continent under a generalization doesn’t serve them very well.

You find this a lot on every social activist blog, in every circle. Guess what? POC Equality can have white supporters. Fat Acceptance movements can have thin supporters and LGBQT Equality can have some straight supporters. In fact, it probably has to if you want it to actually become as wide spread as you hope it will.

I recently read a story about a student who was being harassed at his college for being heterosexual, and most of the comments were very heterophobic, saying that it “never happens”, that “like this kid didn’t lie, yeah right. Life is never like this,” etc. etc.

Why can’t people just admit discrimination happens to everybody because everybody’s a jerkwad?
