So one of my roommates works at the D*sneyland Big Thunder Ranch and out on the tables they usually have coloring book pages and crayons out that kids can color with. Today she found this page a guest had embellished.
She liked it so much, she brought it home and posted it on our fridge!
“I’m a bit disappointed in my friend, as the only reason she doesn’t like Disney movies because they’re not anime”.
OH NO IT’S NOT ANIME! WHAT TERRIBLE ABOMINATIONS!
No, ok, that person is stupid and needs to learn their anime history, because it’s been explicitly stated that anime is based off the style of Walt Disney’s cartoons. Osamu Tezuka, the “father of anime” and the creator of the classics Astro Boy, Kimba the White Lion, and Black Jack, absolutely adored Walt Disney’s style, so he almost literally copied the style, especially the eyes, and used it in his works. He even did a manga version of Bambi. Pretty much every anime afterwards is derived from this man’s works.
Basically, there’s no way to appreciate anime without appreciating its origins, and its origins actually do trace back to Walt Disney’s cartoons. So this person is obviously a complete weeaboo that needs to shut up and take a seat.
“I think that people who like Disney that are over 20 years old are childish. The movies were wonderful, but you have to realize when to let it go:”
“Childishness? I think it’s the equivalent of never losing your sense of humor. I mean, there’s a certain something that you retain. It’s the equivalent of not getting so stuffy that you can’t laugh at others.”
“I do not make films primarily for children. I make them for the child in all of us, whether we be six or sixty. Call the child innocence. The worst of us is not without innocence, although buried deeply it might be. In my work I try to reach and speak to that innocence, showing it the fun and joy of living; showing it that laughter is healthy; showing it that the human species, although happily ridiculous at times, is still reaching for the stars.”
“That’s the real trouble with the world, too many people grow up. They forget. They don’t remember what it’s like to be twelve years old. They patronize; they treat children as inferiors. I won’t do that. I’ll temper a story, yes. But I won’t play down, and I won’t patronize.”
-Walt Disney
I love Disney, and it really did influence my childhood and even my career choices.
However, I think it’s ridiculous when people say that kids who weren’t exposed it were “deprived” as children. That’s saying that they were deprived of another effect of consumerism and they’re going to suffer from it throughout their entire life. Kids get so attached to Disney because they’re young and susceptible to the effects of good marketing, and everyone’s a victim.
Don’t get me wrong, that doesn’t mean Disney shouldn’t exist at all. They have wonderful artists, great stories, and a few life lessons to be learned.
There’s just so many other ways to raise your child that aren’t letting them obsess over a corporation’s productions. You can buy your kids different books, give them art supplies, or even make up your own stories and activities. Take them to museums, teach them about the animals at the zoo, play dress-up with them.
Just don’t let Disney be their main source of “magic,” because that “magic” is still there to make money in the end of it all.

You guys asked for it! Here’s the most voted for Disney movie, Mulan!
On the left side is the scene where Mulan returns home. There’s the cherry tree, with her father sitting on the bench underneath it and then Mulan coming through the entrance way.
On the right is Mushu when he first meets Mulan. This is his silhouette and the little blue/purple dot is Cri-Kee fanning the fire! Then underneath it are all the glowing elders! Now I know that the elders are not in that scene, but I wanted to include them in this, so I split the right eye!
“i love Disney and always will, but i think people have such high expectations for it they forget, Disney in the end is just another company, after your money.”
At least they spend their money wisely.
You know, on decent thinkers.
In light of that recent Did-You-Kno post, I feel like showing off what I’ve learned from digging through my parents’ Harvard Classics books and going through every Grimm, Aesop, and Anderson tale.
Let’s talk about fairy tales.
And I’m not even going to say that the talking animals weren’t there because it’s kind of obvious.

“I still don’t believe it when I see a person that says they love Disney with all of their being, yet have never played Kingdom Hearts (and sometimes say they never will). Although it wasn’t made in the US, it’s still true to all the Disney characters. I’m sure the Disney fans who haven’t played it yet would love it”.
I let out a terrible, ear-piercing internal scream whenever I see huge tumblr fandoms’ fans take ridiculous stabs at one another for no good reason
let’s get some things straight
- there are OVERLAPPING FANS for any fandom you criticize that might/will take offense if you’re an ass to fans of other things
- if your fandom has a bad rep IT DOESN’T HELP YOUR FANDOM’S CASE
- this is why stupid pointless internet fights happen
- stupid pointless internet fights are stupid because it’s like playing mario party - you get nothing valuable out of it no matter how long you drag it out (unless you’re taking bets but that’s always the exception)
- every fandom will be in your face about their love for it.
not just Homestuck (GASP)you’ve probably seen it yourself, fans will post endlessly about the things they love and it’s a fact of tumblife - with this, DON’T COMPLAIN ABOUT SOMEONE POSTING SO MUCH OF A FANDOM. holy shit people, they like their stuff, just deal with it
- and if you don’t wanna put up with it FIND SOMEONE ELSE TO FOLLOW that will post more of what you want because surprisingly there are other people on tumblr
and most importantly
- one bad post or the stupid actions of one fan do not reflect the entire fandom at all
I mean yes there are very insane fans
but in reality not every Twilight fan tries to draw blood from their boy/girlfriend to “try to be a vampire” and not every Justin Bieber fan vandalizes Wikipedia out of rage because Biebs got snubbed for an award
don’t make conclusions
in conclusion
we’re all on the same site here
there will be clashes
but please let’s try to get along so that nobody exits the window in a bad mood
(and yes I am going to tag this with every major fandom I know of on tumblr because some people don’t get the concept of “don’t be an ass”)
rant done. back to my glorious blend of anime and vocaloid and sherlock and danny phantom and disney
