“When I first got into the furry fandom I promised mysef I’d NEVER draw porn.
Then I met a guy that I loved and I decided to trust him enough to break that rule.
He told me we’d be friends forever then he broke my heart. I’m over that! But.
I HATE myself because I did something I swore I’d never do. Not only that, but, this is undeniably the BEST THING I HAVE EVER DRAWN”
Shadingwise and anatomywise.
I never uploaded this image anywhere and I deleted everything I had related to it (Except for this) and threw away the original sketches but it still fucking eats at me.

Well, don’t feel bad for drawing porn! Never feel bad about your art for reasons like this - especially if you feel you did so well! When it comes to art, different things will make you step out of your comfort zone. Stepping out of your comfort zone is good, because you find that you’re good at different things… like porn!
Best of wishes for the healing process of heartbreak and in your art. c:

Honestly, in art, your best friends are your worst critics.

Yo, guys, I submitted this and realized my mistake after hitting the “submit” button and then later asked them via askbox to correct “yuumei” to “yunomi,” who was a Japanese artist accused of plagiarism about two years ago. (I actually know yuumei had some artwork stolen from her, so she had a reverse situation.) I’m trying to get in touch with the admins right now to get this removed/corrected, but it’s near impossible to do so.

For the longest time he’s just basically ignored constructive criticism. Which, frankly, he needs. :U
Dunno how he is now but his reputation is tarnished because of it.

You guys. Stylization and Realism are two side of the same coin. They are not mutually exclusive. You can’t properly do one without knowing the other. Don’t deny yourself and entire facet of art history because it’s “not your thing”. The more the DA / Tumblr community differentiate themselves from “traditional” or “historical” art the less anyone will take them seriously. Drawings are drawings. Art is art. Get over it.
Anime stuff is fine but Crack open a Raphael book once in a while. SHEESH.
I’ve seen this weird dichotomy in the “internet art” community a lot. No one has to make anything photo realistic or super stylized. It is what it is. But when you refuse to learn another technique you are only hurting yourself, and when it becomes accepted and encouraged to be like “well that’s my style” then it hurts your community and the medium as a whole.

See: modern art.
A lot of paintings I see are artists who just don’t know what they’re doing. That’s not all of them, per se, and it’s easy to tell the difference.

it’s worth noting that “realistic” artists have their own style. I spent most of my art classes studying Leonardo Da Vinci since he was closer to my art style, and I noticed that not only was his sense of the face kind of off for a while, but he was fond of soft, gentle lines and had a talent for establishing depth with normally fairly hard-looking lines. His focus was on portraits and the eyes, and he put a lot of conviction in shading; particularly accenting the cheekbones with extreme shadows. He also tends to gravitate to a sense of roundness. His style is instantly identifiable among other artists around his era.
Saying that you’re using “your own style” when ignoring the basics of anatomy sort of implies that people who are really focused on realistic art don’t have a style. Being a good artist is understanding the framework of what you’re drawing and then just working with it however you want. Sometimes your framework is less complete than others (i.e. stretchy american cartoons), but it should still be there.

In response to this.
PROTIP: If someone skeletons your art and it looks like a space alien cooking eggs on its chest with its mind powers, something is wrong. Beauty is nice, but anyone with even the slightest idea of how anatomy works is going to see how ugly your art is. I saw it at very first glance.
Also? Writing off other artists as “newfags” is rude as fuck, especially when they are making guides to help people who want to improve. Though I don’t think you’d know anything about that, you seem quite content with yourself.
Posting as anonymous because I made this in 5 minutes for a laugh, and I don’t take this seriously enough to deal with inbox messages and complaints.
