spoilers woohoo
so uh I don’t think, firstly, that Kagari/Chariot is going to have a major role in this anymore - Yomi kind of implies something like, “oh she’s fine let’s move on with life”
At this rate it’s completely obvious that the Otherworld and Earth characters are directly related, and the anime tends to make a point out of that. So we have confirmed so far:
- Black Rock Shooter - Mato
- Chariot - Kagari
- Dead Master - Yomi
- Black Gold Saw - Saya (counselor)
- Mysterious hooded girl - Arata
It’s revealed that whenever a character in the Otherworld is killed, the person on Earth is affected as well. How, we’re not exactly sure. I think Saya knows for sure that these Otherworld fighters literally take the pains and burdens of the Earth girls, and Mato is becoming aware of this fact.
What I think happens is that once the characters enter a battle, they’re always pained by it in some way or another. By literally killing the fighter, the “other self,” you shift all of the emotions into the counterpart. That’s it. However, it’s also possible to nurse the “other selves” in order to use them to your advantage.
It’s possible that Saya/Black Gold Saw created the hooded figures as “artificial other selves” for several people in her school so that the burdens of those on Earth get transferred to the Otherworld, making the other selves more powerful.
For example, consider Arata and her other self - the other self didn’t have to exist, and Arata didn’t have to go see Saya. But Saya created this additional burden for Arata, making Arata that much more vulnerable. BRS probably knows all this as well, which would explain why she first wanted to help the other self, but instead went ahead and killed her. All of the other self’s emotions got shifted back to Arata, hence why she was so overwhelmed and fainted. There was literally no point to Arata’s other self besides stirring up more trouble.
What would almost confuse me is why DM and Strength don’t show up. However, it makes sense in the context of the plot, because BRS wants to take care of BGS before she wrecks havoc. And it seems like she was too late, because at the end of the episode, Arata’s other self had developed far too much to do anything about.
At this point, I think Saya wants to wreck Yomi and Mato’s relationship in order for their other selves to destroy each other. She also wants Arata to despise Mato so that BRS weakens as well.
